Abstract

The Javan leopard (Panthera pardus melas) is an endemic animal of Java Island and plays a very important role in its habitat as a top predator in the food chain, acting as a key species in maintaining the balance of the forest ecosystem. This study start from November 2023 – Maret 2024. One of the areas designated for monitoring the Javan leopard is Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS), which began in 2015. However, a comprehensive survey of the entire area has not yet been conducted. Therefore, this study aims to determine the presence and distribution of the Javan leopard in Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park, which is one of the important areas for this species. The methods employed in this study include collecting location coordinates and samples of traces such as feces, claw marks, footprints, birthing dens, vomit, and Javan leopard hair. The next step is the identification of Javan leopard feces samples. This is done in conjunction with confirming the presence of the Javan leopard using camera traps. The distribution analysis of the Javan leopard is visualized using ArcGis 10.8.The results of this study indicate that traces of the Javan leopard found include 3 feces samples, 5 footprints, and 1 active claw mark. The distribution of the Javan leopard is visualized with a potential distribution map based on three categories: low, medium, and high. The validation results of the findings and distribution show that the potential distribution of the Javan leopard (Panthera pardus melas) is 66.6% in the high category and 33.3% in the medium category.
