Abstract
Kerusakan gigi merupakan masalah kesehatan yang umum di Indonesia, dengan prevalensi mencapai 45,3% penduduk. Untuk mengatasi masalah ini, gigi tiruan menjadi solusi penting untuk mencegah komplikasi seperti pergeseran gigi, kelainan berbicara, dan penurunan efisiensi pengunyahan. Meskipun gigi tiruan PMMA banyak dipilih karena biayanya yang terjangkau, kemudahan perbaikan, dan daya tahannya yang baik, sifat mekaniknya yang lemah memerlukan penambahan filler ZrO2 untuk memperkuat matriksnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengembangkan teknik produksi gigi tiruan berbasis PMMA melalui polimerisasi heat cure dengan penambahan filler ZrO2 tersilanisasi. Evaluasi dilakukan terhadap pengaruh konsentrasi filler ZrO2 terhadap sifat mekanik dan residual monomer pada komposit gigi tiruan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode polimerisasi bulk komposit. Bahan powder PMMA, inisiator BPO, dan filler ZrO2 yang telah disilanisasi dicampur dengan monomer MMA dan agen crosslink EGDMA. Pencampuran dilakukan secara manual (handmixing) hingga mencapai fase adonan, lalu dicetak dalam mold sesuai standar ASTM untuk uji mekanik. Mold kemudian ditekan dan dipanaskan menggunakan waterbath (polimerisasi heat cure). Penelitian ini berhasil mengembangkan teknik produksi gigi tiruan berbasis PMMA dengan penambahan filler ZrO2 tersilanisasi. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa teknik produksi berhasil dilakukan dan menghasilkan komposit gigi tiruan dengan integrasi ZrO2 tersilanisasi yang baik. Penambahan γ-MPS dan konsentrasi filler ZrO2 secara signifikan meningkatkan kekuatan impak dan kekuatan lentur komposit, dengan kombinasi optimal pada konsentrasi ZrO2 5% dan γ-MPS 5%. Komposit ini memenuhi standar minimum properti mekanik ISO 2212:2016. Kadar residual monomer dalam komposit memang meningkat dengan penambahan γ-MPS dan filler ZrO2, namun masih di bawah standar ISO 22112:2016 pada konsentrasi tertinggi.

Dental damage is a common health issue in Indonesia, with a prevalence reaching 45.3% of the population. To address this problem, dentures become an important solution to prevent complications such as tooth displacement, speech disorders, and reduced chewing efficiency. Although PMMA dentures are often chosen due to their affordable cost, ease of repair, and good durability, their weak mechanical properties necessitate the addition of ZrO2 filler to strengthen the matrix. This study aims to develop a PMMA-based denture production technique through heat cure polymerization with the addition of silanized ZrO2 filler. An evaluation was conducted on the effect of ZrO2 filler concentration on the mechanical properties and residual monomer in the denture composite. This study employed the bulk composite polymerization method. PMMA powder, BPO initiator, and silanized ZrO2 filler were mixed with MMA monomer and EGDMA crosslinking agent. Mixing was done manually (hand mixing) until reaching the dough phase, then molded according to ASTM standards for mechanical testing. The mold was then pressed and heated using a water bath (heat cure polymerization). This study successfully developed a PMMA-based denture production technique with the addition of silanized ZrO2 filler. The results showed that the production technique was successfully implemented and produced a denture composite with good integration of silanized ZrO2. The addition of γ-MPS and ZrO2 filler concentration significantly increased the impact strength and flexural strength of the composite, with the optimal combination at 5% ZrO2 and 5% γ-MPS concentration. This composite meets the minimum mechanical property standards of ISO 2212:2016. The residual monomer content in the composite increased with the addition of γ-MPS and ZrO2 filler but remained below the ISO 22112:2016 standard at the highest concentration.
