Abstract

In the steel industry, the Electric Arc Furnace (EAF), Ladle Refining Furnace (LRF), and Continuous Casting Machine (CCM) are crucial components in the steel production process. Water serves as a vital cooling component in these three processes. Therefore, centrifugal pumps are used to distribute water efficiently to ensure energy-efficient performance.
This research aims to calculate the effective head for water distribution, optimize pump conditions in oversized locations by calculating pump performance before impeller trimming and calculating pump performance after impeller trimming to overcome the problem of large energy usage, and exploring the impact of impeller trimming on pump performance. The results of this research were effective head calculations carried out on the five systems by summing them in complex circuits to obtain a head of 61.72m and using two jumbo pumps with impeller trimming of 7.5% and operating in parallel, combined with safety factor and throttle valve adjustments, shows that the system can operate optimally and within safe limits. Trimming the impeller by 7.5% can save energy of 530 kWh or a saving cost of Rp. 28,627,510. per month
