Abstract

Solar panels are a power generation technology that uses new renewable energy that is clean and environmentally friendly. A factor that greatly affects the performance of solar panels is the temperature of the solar panels themselves. Increasing the temperature of solar panels can reduce their conversion efficiency, so this research was conducted to determine the effect of using a continuous cooling system and pulsed spray water. This research uses an experimental method to obtain data on solar radiation intensity, output voltage, output current, and solar panel conversion efficiency values, as well as to determine the effect of this cooling method on water usage and electrical energy used by the cooling system. This research was conducted in several stages, starting with a literature study, followed by designing a tool so that the cooling system using the continuous and pulsed spray water method can run optimally. The tool that has been designed is then tested with several variations, namely solar panels without cooling, solar panels with a continuous spray water cooling system, and solar panels with a pulsed spray water cooling system that has a duty cycle of 0.2 and time intervals of 30 seconds, 1 minute, and 3 minutes. The results show that the use of continuous and pulsed spray water cooling systems is effective in reducing the temperature of solar panels. The pulsed cooling system variation with 30 second intervals is the most optimal variation in improving system efficiency, with an increase in daily average conversion efficiency to 15.99%. This system variation also showed the best balance between low water discharge and high net electrical energy generation.
