Abstract

Employment is one of the important factors in national development. Indonesia is an agricultural country with a majority of its inhabitants working in the agricultural sector. Agriculture in Indonesia also plays a role in the national economy through the GDP of the agricultural sector. Although the agricultural sector consistently absorbs the highest labour force, labour growth in the sector is not significant when compared to the non-agricultural sector. East Java as one of the provinces with the highest agricultural contribution in Indonesia has a percentage of the labour force in the agricultural sector that continues to decline from 2020 to 2022. The decline, if allowed to continue, would have a negative impact on the agricultural sector's GDP to the decline in agricultural productivity. Many of the alleged factors are related to the choice of employment sector. To find out if there is a relationship between age, gender, marital status, number of dependents, level of education, training, income, and District/City with the choice of major employment sectors, research is carried out using binary logistic regression. The result is that as much as 27.5% of the population of East Java work in the agricultural sector and the remaining 72.5% work in non-agricultural sector. The factors that have a significant influence are the variables of age, gender, marital status, number of survivors, level of education, training, income, and District/City.
