Abstract

The increasing demand for energy has encouraged the development of alternative energy. Nyamplung (calophyllum inophyllum) is a plant that can be used as a resource for alternative energy development. Oil from nyamplung seeds can be used for the production of fatty acid methyl esters (FAME). Fatty acid esters can be obtained by lipid hydrolysis and fatty acid esterification through LP-HTL. Nyamplung seed oil is obtained by pressing dried nyamplung seeds as feedstock. Nyamplung seed oil with methanol solvent was processed through LP-HTL at 250ºC for 60 minutes and varied pressures of 1; 1.5; and 2 MPa. Characterization of LP-HTL oil product includes density, kinematic viscosity, calorific value, and chemical components analyzed by GC-MS. The highest yield of LP-HTL oil product was obtained at a pressure variation of 1.5 MPa, which was 80.2097%. The density and kinematic viscosity values of three LP-HTL oil products are within the ASTM D6751 range. The kinematic viscosity values of LP-HTL oil products with pressure variations of 1 and 1.5 MPa is also within the range of SNI 7182:2015. Meanwhile, the calorific value of LP-HTL oil products with pressure variations of 1 and 1.5 MPa is within the EN (14214) range. The chemical components of nyamplung seed oil are dominated by linoleic fatty acids while the chemical components of LP-HTL oil products are dominated by methyl elaidate/oleic. The FAME obtained from three LP-HTL products with pressure variations of 1; 1.5; and 2 MPa were 95.69; 88.73; and 91.04%, respectively.
