Abstract

Trengguli-Kudus road section is located on the Pantura route, which is a strategic route for the mobilisation of various economic activities, but this road often experiences damage that affects the mobility of road users. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the road damage to determine the subsurface lithology and damage distribution using 2D Resistivity and Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) methods. The 2D Resistivity measurements were carried out in up to 2 lines in a West-East at the edge of the road, while the GPR measurements were carried out in up to 9 lines with 2 lines in a West-East and 7 lines in a North-South above the road surface. Based on the 2D resistivity cross section results, the subsurface lithology of the study area consists of sand and gravel, clayey silt, dense clay and soft clay. The soft clay as a subsurface layer indicates a weak zone in the subsurface causing road damage in the study area. Based on the radargram profile results, the road damage in the study area is dominated by cracking and settlement distributed throughout the pavement structure (concrete, asphalt and aggregate layers).
