Abstract

Soil fertility greatly influences plant growth, this is because the nutrient content in the soil is able to make plants grow well. Nitrogen is absorbed by plant roots in the form of nitrate and ammonium, nitrate itself is an ion that plants use for their growth process. Biological methods of improving soil quality can be done by utilizing microorganisms. Bioaugmentation by adding liquid culture containing exogenous microorganisms to the planting media can increase the population of microorganisms that already exist in the planting media so that it can improve soil quality, one of which is by increasing nitrate levels in the soil. Based on the qualitative test results, the Bacillus cereus WN4 isolate has the ability to provide available nitrate. Data collection was carried out by testing nitrate levels using the sulfanilic acid brusine method and measuring parameters including number of leaves, plant height and plant wet weight. The collected data was analyzed using statistical methods, namely Analysis of Variance SPSS application and continued with the Tukey further test at α 5% level. The results showed that the application of Bacillus cereus WN4 bioaugmentation had an effect on increasing the available nitrate concentration in the pak choy (Brassica rapa L.) planting medium with the highest nitrate levels in the T2B3 treatment with available nitrate of 19.79 ppm. Apart from that, the application of Bacillus cereus WN4 bioaugmentation on the Brassica rapa L. planting medium had an effect on plant growth and productivity with the highest yield in the T2B1 treatment with an average plant height of 22.33 cm, number of leaves of 11.33, and wet weight of 5.31 grams.
