Abstract

The ‘MARK’ field is located in the South Sumatra Basin. This study focuses on the Baturaja Formation, which is a carbonate reservoir. Carbonate reservoirs typically have issues related to the relationship between porosity and permeability. This is due to the complex heterogeneity of carbonate reservoirs. In this study, petrophysical analysis and rock typing using the Pore Geometry Structure (PGS) method were conducted to understand the heterogeneity of the carbonate reservoir. Petrophysical analysis was performed using wireline log data from 6 wells to determine petrophysical properties. Additionally, RCAL and SCAL data were used for rock typing analysis. Based on the petrophysical analysis of the ‘MARK’ field, the average porosity value is categorized as very good, with a value of 22.4%. Rock typing results using the PGS method in the ‘MARK’ field identified four rock types. RT-1 is categorized as the best in terms of the relationship between porosity and permeability through the pore geometry and structure approach, while RT-4 is categorized as the worst. Permeability prediction results using the PGS method ranged from 24 to 429 md, categorized as high to very high. Permeability predictions using the Timur and PGS methods were validated by core permeability data, showing that permeability predictions from the PGS method had a better correlation with core data, with a correlation value of 0.893, compared to the Timur method, which had a correlation value of 0.533.
