Abstract

Vibration is something that should be avoided or minimized and carefully observed, especially in ship construction. If the ship's construction continously experiences vibrations, it poses a significant risk of damage and structural failure. This occurs when the natural frequency is equal to the excitation frequency of the ship's body, also known as resonance. Furthermore, the strenght of the ship is also an important aspect that needs to be considered, a constructuin structure is designed to be able to withstand various workloads. It is recommended to build the construction as light as possible without compromissing the predetermined strength limits set by classification so that it would be more advantageous financially. This research aims to analyze the structural strength and the potential for resonance occurrence in Crude Oil Tankers locally, specifically on the elevation panels in the engine room. Three different designs with varying stiffener sizes and plate thicknesses are considered. Linear static analysis and frequency analysis are conducted using the software tools HyperMesh, HyperView, and MSC Nastran. The maximum stress value obtained from each model remains within the allowable stress limits. The maximum stress ranges from 74.82 MPa to 92.44 MPa, which indicates the deck safety factor is met. Furthermore, Campbell's Diagram is used to assess resonance by comparing the natural frequency of the panel with the excitation frequency of the main engine and propeller. The result showed that the natural frequency in the first model was 14.69 Hz, the second was 13.95 Hz, and the third was 12.56 Hz. These results show that none of the models exhibit resonance, this is beacuse the natural frequencies are greater than the excitation frequency of the main engine and propeller, which is only around 8.7 and 5.8 Hz.
