Abstract
Sedangkan laju timbulan sampah medis rawat inap sebesar 1,15 kg/bed.hari dan laju timbulan sampah medis rawat jalan sebesar 0,16 kg/pasien.hari.

RSUD Sogaten is a class C health service facility owned by the Madiun City government. Hospital activities produce MW (MW), which includes pathological, radioactive, chemical, infectious non-sharps, infectious sharps, and pharmaceuticals. The MW could potentially be harmful to human health and environment. To anticipate spread of emerging disease and harm to the environment, the MW has to be managed properly. This study aims to determine the generation rate and composition of MW based on its type and source, to evaluate the existing management condition and its suitability to the enacted regulations. Direct measurements and interviews were carried out to obtain MW generation rate, composition, and management activities data, such as packaging, collection, and storage conditions. Furthermore, the technical suitability of MW management was evaluated based on most related regulations. The MW generation rate and composition were measured using weight and volume analysis method. Samples were collected within 8 consecutive working days. The MW management activity data were obtained through direct observation and interview to sanitarians and cleaning service personnel, who handled the MW The results showed that the average generation rates of the MW components were: infectious non-sharp object 125 kg/day (77.55%), pharmaceutical waste 21.05 kg/day (13.06%), infectious waste sharps 7.28 (4.52%), and pathological waste 10.87 kg/day (4.9%). The generation rates of in-patient MW and the outpatient were 0.84 kg/bed.day and 0.23 kg/patient.day, respectively. The current MW management was still ineffective, as shown by MW segregation and infectious non-sharp objects and pharmaceuticals packaging activities, which were still improperly done. Additionally, MW collection and complementary equipment in temporary storage facility, such as fire extinguishers, first aid kits, and alarms, have not been provided. These shortcomings should be evaluated for a better management by the hospital manager.
