Abstract

Many countries transitioned to electric four-wheel vehicles (E4V) since 2010 to support the 2015 Paris Agreement. This study uses the Bass Diffusion Model to analyze variations in E4V adoption patterns between countries with parameter estimation of innovation (p) and imitation (q) coefficients using Nonlinear Least Squares (NLS). The analysis found that the global adoption pattern of E4V resembles ICE, hybrid, and diesel-based transportation products, with a p value of 0.093% and q of 21.496%. The adoption patterns between countries were classified into four groups: Influence-Driven Adopters (IDA), Community-Driven Adopters (CDA), Innovator-Led Adopters (ILA), and Balanced-Adopters (BA). Panel data regression shows that regulatory variables such as tax exemptions, manufacturer incentives, charging infrastructure, and duration of E4V entry significantly affect adoption. Macroeconomic factors such as inflation and unemployment rates also play an important role. A full regulation scenario can increase adoption by 85% and shift the adoption pattern from IDA to BA, while de-regulation can decrease adoption by 21% and shift the pattern to CDA. This study suggests an adoption pattern-based approach to accelerate E4V penetration.
