Abstract

This report presents the outcomes of an internship program conducted at PT. PAL Indonesia by a student from the Department of Industrial Mechanical Engineering, Vocational Faculty, Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology, Surabaya. The internship aimed to provide hands-on experience in the workplace, particularly in machinery design, a critical aspect of the maritime industry. Conducted from February to June 2022, the internship involved various activities, including field surveys, ship component design, and technical data management. Key tasks included designing hydraulic motors, windlasses, and standard ship fittings using software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Cadmatic. The intern also managed and organized pipe drawing files, estimated materials like ship plates, and conducted direct observation and analysis of the Hospital Assistance Ship (BRS). These activities offered a comprehensive understanding of ship production processes, from design to testing, emphasizing compliance with international standards. This report highlights the importance of technological proficiency, teamwork, discipline, and adaptability to industrial work culture. Additionally, the internship experience enhanced the student’s insight into challenges and opportunities in the maritime industry, particularly in advancing modern ship development. The results of this internship demonstrate that strong technical knowledge combined with practical experience is essential in preparing graduates for careers in strategic industrial sectors.
