Abstract

To achieve optimal efficiency in the oil and gas industry, the transportation and distribution process is a crucial factor. Most oil and gas companies are supported by subsea pipeline for distribution and transportation of large quantities and long distances. As production fields age, it is challenging to manage assets such as subsea pipeline that are aging and past their original design life. This inevitably carries a high risk of compromising the integrity of subsea pipeline and economic loss. A strategic plan using risk analysis methods is required to identify and minimize the occurrence of failures in subsea aging pipeline. The risk is analyzed using the Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) and Bayesian Network (BN) methods to determine the risk of failure that can occur. Based on the risk assessment in the two methods, a failure mechanism with an RPN value of 111 was obtained, while the Bayesian Network results also showed the same failure rating. Therefore, the author proposes maintenance activities to extend the life of subsea pipeline by considering costs. The cost of extending the life of the subsea aging pipeline is calculated with several aspects, through; maintenance costs, failure losses cost, and the profit of extending the life of the subsea aging pipeline.
