Abstract

Population growth, industrial growth, and the ongoing development of technology are key factors that drive electrical power demand. If the load demand increases, the generation power will also increase. Therefore, an optimal calculation such as Economic Dispatch (ED) is required, which is one of the optimization methods used to determine the cheaper allocation of power generation. However, there are disturbances such as additional load demand and lack of generation power, which can lead to imbalances. From this imbalance, it is necessary to apply Optimal Load Shedding (OLS) to maintain system stability. Therefore, ED is performed with OLS to meet the load requirements. The optimal method in this research is the use of the Centralized Solution method. The use of this method will develop ED calculations with OLS simultaneously in the event of an imbalance. To facilitate research and evaluation, the research will be conducted using computer simulation using MATLAB software. The final result obtained is that the total cost of ED without OLS tends to be lower at $604.83 than the total cost of ED with OLS which is $1222.73 (Load Addition) and $682.73 (Generator Release) this is due to disturbances such as load addition and generator release which are the cause of additional costs. However, by doing so the imbalance of generation power and load requirements can be resolved.
