Abstract
PT.

PT. Pupuk Sriwidjaja Palembang (Pusri) is a pioneer company engaged in the urea fertilizer industry in Indonesia. One of its plants, Pusri 1B, has a production capacity of 446,000 tons of ammonia per year and 570,000 tons of urea per year. To meet production demands, a stable and efficient electrical system is required to avoid disruptions that could harm the company. One potential disruption is an arc flash. Arc flash occurs due to the release of energy caused by arcing faults (fault currents) and bolted faults, which can damage equipment and endanger workers' safety. Therefore, an arc flash analysis is necessary to determine the level of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to protect workers in accordance with the NFPA 70E standard. The method used to analyze the arc flash phenomenon in this study involves the energy boundary curve. Generally, this method is a simplification that refers to the IEEE 1584-2002 standard, where only the characteristic curve of the protective device for the analyzed bus is intersected with the energy boundary curve. The final results of the arc flash analysis using the energy boundary curve method demonstrate that determining the PPE category is easier compared to the IEEE 1584-2002 standard. However, it results in differences in the safe distance.
