Abstract
The transition towards renewable energy sources is imperative in mitigating climate change and ensuring sustainable energy for future generations. This study explores the feasibility of installing a Photovoltaic (PV) solar power system at Rumah Sakit Haji Medan to enhance its energy efficiency and reduce reliance on conventional energy sources. The research assesses the technical, economic, and environmental viability of the proposed PV installation. Technical feasibility is evaluated through an analysis of solar irradiance data specific to Medan, Indonesia, and consideration of optimal panel placement and tilt angle on the hospital’s roof. Simulation tools, such as the Helioscope, are employed to estimate potential energy production and system performance. Economic feasibility is examined by calculating the initial investment costs, operational savings, and payback period. Environmental benefits are assessed by estimating the reduction in carbon emissions and other environmental impacs. The findings indicate that the proposed PV system can significantly offset the hospital’s energy consumption, offering substantial cost savings and environmental benefits. The study concludes with recommendations for implementation, highlighting the importance of renewable energy in healthcare facilities. This research contributes to the broader field of electrical engineering by demonstrating the practical application of solar energy systems in institutional settings, paving the way for similar initiatives in the region
