Abstract

Methylene blue is a synthetic dye that is a waste product of the textile industry. If the waste water from the textile industry contains as much as 95% methylene blue, it can have a negative impact on human health. One of them causes skin damage due to irritation. In an effort to overcome this problem, a Bi₂O₃/Zeolite/Carbon Sphere (CS) composite was synthesized through a hydrothermal process. In this study, carbon sphere from tuak water was chosen because of its high glucose content, environmentally friendly, economical, and has a high surface area, thus increasing the number of active sites for methylene blue adsorption and increasing electron transfer during the photocatalysis process. This research method consists of synthesizing Bi₂O₃/Zeolite, synthesizing Carbon Sphere (CS), and synthesizing Bi₂O₃/Zeolite/Carbon Sphere (CS) composites with mass additions of 0,1gr, 0,2gr, and 0,3gr. Characterizations performed include XRD, FTIR, SEM-EDX, BET, and UV-Vis. Photocatalyst testing was also carried out to determine the performance of the Bi₂O₃/Zeolite/Carbon Sphere (CS) composite. The Bi₂O₃/Zeolite/Carbon Sphere (CS) composite with the addition of carbon sphere (CS) masses of 0,1gr, 0,2gr, and 0,3gr, the variation of mass addition of 0,3gr is the most optimal and successfully degrades methylene blue waste for one hour with a degradation percent of 77,14%.
