Abstract

Work-related deaths due to cardiovascular disease are a serious issue in the upstream oil and gas industry. Companies with high-risk, high-cost operational characteristics require occupational health management aligned with organizational goals and cultural values to meet applicable regulations. This study aims to develop research and integrate variables of the Health Belief Model, namely socio-demographics, knowledge, perceived susceptibility, severity, barriers, benefits, self-efficacy, cues to action, and individual health behaviors in an effort to prevent cardiovascular disease, which is tested through 11 hypotheses. Data was collected using a questionnaire from 129 respondents at PT. XYZ using purposive sampling and pre-determined sample criteria. The questionnaire data was confirmed to ensure the quality of the data was valid and good. From the descriptive analysis and SEM-PLS used, it was found that the variable knowledge had a significant influence on perceived susceptibility, severity, benefits, and self-efficacy, and the variables susceptibility, benefits, and cues to action had an influence on individual health behaviors. This is an important indication of the need for a comprehensive education program and effective communication. While the insignificant influence of barriers, severity, and self-efficacy indicates the need to identify barriers and formulate strategic ways through a supportive work environment. Other factors also need to be developed such as psychological, environmental and social in a systematic approach to improve employee health, productivity, and overall well-being.
