Abstract

A Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) is a network of autonomous sensors used to track physical or environmental conditions, such as temperature, pressure, and humidity. Zigbee, as one of the IEEE 802.15.4-based WSN technologies, has the advantages of power saving and self-organization capabilities, making it suitable for applications such as Smart Building. This study aims to evaluate the performance of Zigbee with a hybrid topology that combines AODV and DSR routing protocols in the context of Smart Building applications. The research was conducted with simulations using Network Simulator-2 (NS-2) to analyze four main parameters: throughput, energy, packet delivery ratio (PDR), and packet loss. The simulation was designed with scenarios that represent realistic conditions of Zigbee networks in high-rise buildings. The results show that the hybrid Zigbee topology with AODV and DSR protocols provides different performance in each parameter, providing important insights for the development of more efficient Smart Building networks.
