Abstract

Sungai Asam, anak Sungai Batanghari di Kota Jambi, adalah sumber utama air baku PDAM. Namun, sungai ini mengalami pencemaran akibat limbah domestik dari pemukiman, perhotelan, dan perdagangan, sehingga kemampuan purifikasi alaminya menurun. Pengujian tahun 2023 menunjukkan peningkatan Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) dari 9,9 mg/l di hulu menjadi 29,4 mg/l di hilir, serta Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) dari 21,1 mg/l menjadi 41,5 mg/l, yang telah melampaui baku mutu air kelas 2 (PP No. 22 Tahun 2021). Kajian ini bertujuan mengembangkan strategi pengendalian pencemaran melalui perhitungan daya tampung beban pencemar dan alokasi beban pada Sub-DAS Asam. Penelitian dilakukan dengan pemodelan kualitas air menggunakan Qual2Kw dan menerapkan empat skenario: kondisi eksisting, prediksi populasi lima tahun mendatang, kesesuaian baku mutu tanpa pencemar, dan metode trial and error. Hasil dari skenario ini digunakan untuk merancang pengurangan beban pencemar. Selain itu, survei terhadap masyarakat sekitar sungai dilakukan untuk menganalisis peran serta mereka dalam pengendalian pencemaran. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa pengurangan beban pencemar BOD sebesar 75% diperlukan untuk memenuhi baku mutu, sementara COD dan TSS dapat memenuhi baku mutu dengan pengurangan 25%. Kesadaran masyarakat terhadap lingkungan cukup baik, namun partisipasi aktif perlu ditingkatkan, terutama dalam pengelolaan limbah. The Asam River, a tributary of the Batanghari River in Jambi City, serves as the primary raw water source for the local water utility (PDAM). However, the river has been polluted by domestic waste from residential areas, hotels, and
commercial activities, leading to a decline in its natural self-purification capacity. Water quality testing in 2023 revealed an increase in Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD) from 9.9 mg/L upstream to 29.4 mg/L downstream, and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD) from 21.1 mg/L to 41.5 mg/L. These values exceed the Class 2 river water quality standards set by Government Regulation No. 22 of 2021. This study aims to develop pollution control strategies by calculating the pollutant load capacity and allocating pollutant loads in the Sub-Asam Watershed. The research was conducted using water quality modeling with Qual2Kw, applying four scenarios: existing conditions, population predictions for the next five years, compliance with Class 2 standards without pollutant loads, and compliance through a trial-and-error method. The outcomes of these scenarios were used to design pollutant load reduction strategies. Additionally, a survey of communities living along the riverbanks was conducted to analyze their role in pollution control efforts. The results indicate that a 75% reduction in BOD pollutant loads is required to meet water quality standards, while COD and TSS can comply with a 25% reduction. Although community awareness of environmental issues is relatively high, active participation needs to be improved, particularly in waste management. This strategy is expected to support sustainable pollution control efforts in the Asam River.
