Abstract

Speedboats, as a high-speed mode of transportation, face serious challenges in braking, especially at high speeds, which result in extended braking distances. This can increase the risk of accidents and reduce operational comfort and safety. To address these issues, this study aims to design an innovative braking system by utilizing Speedbrake technology integrated into the hull of the boat. The system is designed to increase Drag force, thereby significantly reducing braking distances. The research method involves computer simulations using ANSYS Fluent software to analyze fluid dynamics and the performance of the Speedbrake system, as well as field testing using a prototype designed based on the simulation results. Testing is conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of the Speedbrake system in enhancing Drag force and reducing the braking distance of speedboats. The study results show that implementing a Speedbrake system on a vessel, with a limitation of 10%, can increase braking efficiency even though the braking rate is only 0.131% higher than conventional methods. Nonetheless, this system contributes positively to improving the safety and operational comfort of speedboats. This research is relevant to the development of braking technology for high-speed vessels and can serve as a foundation for similar innovations in the future.
