Abstract

Rattan is one of the largest biological commodities in Indonesia which is used as raw material for various products, one of which is rattan bags. Rattan bags are one of the rattan products in demand in local and international markets. However, most rattan bag products currently in circulation are dominated by the application of woven techniques. Rattan bending techniques, which are more commonly applied in furniture making, have great potential to be explored and applied in rattan bag design. This technique offers flexibility and the possibility of more varied shapes which can be a solution to optimize opportunities for developing rattan bag products. Generation Z as the dominant population is the focus of user targets. This generation is known for its creative characteristics, appreciates innovation, and prefers a personalization-based design approach to support self-expression. By conducting design experiments including exploring techniques, shapes, and material combinations as well as integrating personalization values and sustainable fashion trends, this research seeks to produce rattan bags according to the preferences of generation Z. This research focuses on developing bending techniques for rattan with the stages carried out including interviews prospective rattan users and craftsmen, material experiments, as well as conducting studies and analysis. It is hoped that the research results will create new variations of rattan bag products by utilizing the potential of bending techniques and meeting the preferences of generation Z.
