Abstract

This research aims to analyze the efficiency of boilers in syrup (PS) companies and identify the factors that affect them. As a vital component in the production process, boiler efficiency has a direct impact on a company's productivity. The approach used includes the calculation of boiler efficiency through direct and indirect methods, fishbone diagram analysis to find the root of the problem, and delphi method to determine the priority weight of factors that affect efficiency. The results of the calculations showed an efficiency of 74.568% with the direct method, which gave a simple picture of the output energy, and 77.725% with the indirect method, which included a detailed analysis of the energy loss. Significant heat loss is found at several points, such as heat loss due to evaporation of water from H₂ in fuel (L2) which can be minimized with wet scrubber technology to reduce exhaust gas humidity, to heat loss due to unburnt bottom ash (L8) which can be managed through Electrostatic Precipitator (ESP) and cyclone separator. Through delphi analysis, steam leakage and incomplete combustion were identified as top priorities. To address this problem, an improvement strategy was formulated using the concept of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) which includes eight pillars, such as structured preventive maintenance, operator technical training, and the application of IoT-based technology for early detection. This approach is expected to improve boiler efficiency, reduce the risk of damage, and extend the operational life of the boiler, while providing practical guidance for companies to support overall productivity and sustainability.
