Abstract

Kapal sebagai moda transportasi yang paling efisien dan banyak digunakan untuk mendistribusikan komoditas perdagangan dalam petikemas ke seluruh dunia, tetapi juga menghasilkan emisi yang besar. Emisi yang dihasilkan oleh mesin penggerak berupa nitrogen oksida, sulfur oksida, karbon dioksida, dan karbon monoksida yang dapat mencemari lingkungan. Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI) dan Carbon Intensity Index (CII) menjadi wajib pada tanggal 1 Januari 2023 sehingga perusahaan pelayaran mencari alternatif bahan bakar untuk kapal. Methanol dapat dipilih sebagai bahan bakar alternatif karena dapat menurunkan kadar sulfur oksida, nitrogen oksida, dan particulate matter serta berbentuk cair dan tidak memerlukan peralatan penanganan khusus. Methanol dihasilkan dari semua jenis biomassa, seperti limbah kayu, limbah hutan, dan sampah. Tujuan dari Tugas Akhir ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi penerapan dan regulasi bahan bakar methanol secara global serta untuk mengetahui dan melakukan analisis terhadap perbandingan emisi dan biaya pengangkutan petikemas antara kapal berbahan bakar diesel konvensional dan methanol. Metode yang digunakan untuk penelitian ini adalah Cost-Benefit Analysis. Penerapan bahan bakar methanol pada kapal yang dianalisis mampu mengurangi emisi karbon sebanyak 10% untuk pelayaran yang memiliki rute Singapura – Port Klang – Belawan – Kolkata.

Ships as the most efficient and widely used mode of transportation to distribute trade commodities in containers around the world, but they also produce large emissions. Emissions produced by propulsion engines are nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides, carbon dioxide, and carbon monoxide which can pollute the environment. Energy Efficiency Existing Ship Index (EEXI) and Carbon Intensity Index (CII) became mandatory on January 1, 2023, so shipping companies are looking alternative fuel because it can reduce sulfur oxides, nitrogen oxides, and particulate matter and is liquid and does not require special handling equipment. Methanol is produced from all type of biomass, such as wood waste, forest waste, and garbage. The purpose of this Final Project is to identify the application and regulation of methanol fuel globally and to determine and analyze the comparison of emissions and costs of transporting containers between conventional diesel and methanol-fueled vessels. The method used fpr this research is Cost-Benefit Analysis. The application of methanol fuel on the analyzed vessels can reduce carbon emissions by 10% for the Singapore – Port Klang – Belawan – Kolkata route.
