Abstract

The maritime industry continues to strive to discover methods that are more time-efficient, cost-effective, and minimize material waste. One of the challenges faced is the process of ship interior renovation, which is currently mostly carried out on the spot on the ship, including measurement, cutting, and installation. This approach is relatively time-consuming and generates material waste in the shipyard. This research aims to develop innovations in ship interior renovation using the Off-Site Manufacturing (OSM) method. This method is designed to minimize on-the-spot work on the ship by shifting part of the process to the workshop. The research methodology includes three main stages: identifying existing ship interior renovation methods, including processes carried out in the workshop and on the ship; designing an OSM-based renovation method by moving part of the process to the workshop; and comparing the existing conditions with the proposed method based on technical, time, and cost aspects. After analysis, a comparison was obtained in terms of technical aspects, namely an increase in total JO in the design process by 40% and in the fabrication process by 12% due to the additional work in these processes. In terms of time, based on the project scheduling results, it was found that the time spent in the shipyard was reduced by 43%, amounting to nine weeks, with an additional cost of 11% compared to the existing cost. For the interior renovation project of KM Sabuk Nusantara 92, the renovation cost required was Rp4,834,806,846, with a cost per m2 of Rp5,911,533/m2. The benefits of using the developed method were obtained, with a reduction in the time the ship spent in the shipyard by seven weeks, and the number of workers required for the installation process was twenty, divided into ten installation teams.
