Abstract

The South Sumatra Basin is one of Indonesia's largest hydrocarbon-producing regions, with exploration activities dating back to the early 1900s. To date, more than 300 oil and gas fields have been discovered in the area. However, exploration efforts face several challenges, including geological complexity, limited data availability, and variations in hydrocarbon maturity levels. The "MTC" field in the Muara Enim Formation, characterized by shallow sandstone reservoirs, offers significant potential with relatively low exploration costs. This study aims to analyze the depositional environment, evaluate reservoir properties such as acoustic impedance and porosity using seismic inversion and multi-attribute methods, and identify locations for new exploration well development. The analysis indicates that the Muara Enim Formation in the "MTC" field lies within a transitional lower delta plain environment, featuring geological elements such as crevasse splays, oxbow lakes, delta plains, and delta fronts. Reservoir properties exhibit an acoustic impedance range of 3900–4800 g/m2 s and porosity values of 10–15%, with a strong correlation (R = 0.99) between inversion results and porosity distribution. Three primary prospective areas are identified for well development: Potential Area 1 within a river environment (porosity 10–13%), Potential Area 2 within a crevasse splay environment (porosity 12–15%), and Potential Area 3 within a mouth bar environment (porosity 13–15%).
