Abstract

The transformation toward an agile organization has become a strategic necessity for higher education institutions in responding to external dynamics, including changes in national and international accreditation policies. This study aims to analyze the influence of Business Process Reengineering (BPR) on business process understanding and departmental performance, as well as to examine the moderating role of business process understanding. The research was conducted on non-academic departments at Universitas Ciputra Surabaya using a quantitative approach with the Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) method. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 66 respondents, ranging from heads of department to section heads across various departments. The analysis shows that BPR has a positive and significant effect on departmental performance and enhances business process understanding. However, business process understanding does not significantly influence performance and does not moderate the relationship between BPR and performance. These findings indicate that the success of BPR implementation in improving performance is more strongly influenced by robust information systems and a performance management structure based on key performance indicators (KPI). The results also show that BPR implementation at Universitas Ciputra not only increases work efficiency but also strengthens the institution’s agility. This is reflected in the organization’s growing ability to respond adaptively to external changes through more streamlined, focused, and quality-aligned work processes.
