Abstract

Ship repair projects are often prone to delays, which can lead to increased costs and disruptions in operations. At company XYZ, the project experienced a delay from the original 50-day schedule to 62 days. This delay resulted from uncontrollable external factors such as unfavorable weather, late spare part deliveries, and rework due to technical errors. The company initially used the Critical Path Method (CPM) for scheduling; however, the critical path data required for analysis was not available. Therefore, the researcher reconstructed the project schedule using CPM to independently identify the critical path. Further analysis was conducted using the Critical Chain Project Management (CCPM) method, which shortens task durations, avoids multitasking, and adds buffers. Additionally, the Program Evaluation Review Technique (PERT) was applied to evaluate the probability of completing the project on time. The results identified seven critical activities affecting the project’s duration and cost: Docking, Hydro test of the steering system, Fire fighting system test, Overhaul of main and auxiliary engines, Bilge cleaning in the engine room, Cleaning the condenser and sealing the main air receiver, and Undocking. The calculation results show that the ship repair project at XYZ has a duration of 50 days and a total cost of Rp571.200.000 using the CPM method, and a duration of 45 days with a total cost of Rp605.100.000 using the CCPM method. Based on PERT analysis, the probability of on-time completion using CPM was 96.49%, while CCPM showed a probability of 68.44%. This research recommends selecting a scheduling method aligned with project priorities, whether focusing on time certainty or cost efficiency.
