Abstract

=================================================================================================================================
MOP Beauty, a leading cosmetic company in Indonesia, identified GWS Plump Gloss as having the highest packaging defect rate among its product lines. Packaging defects significantly impact customer satisfaction and brand reputation, making effective quality control crucial. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the current quality inspection system by analyzing 2023–2024 defect data from incoming batches. Using Pareto analysis, the most frequent defects such as scratches and peeling coatings were identified, accounting for over 80% of quality issues. MOP Beauty currently employs a single sampling plan with a sample size of n = 200 and an acceptance number of c = 21, based on MIL-STD 105E standards. Operating Characteristic (OC) Curves were constructed using both binomial and hypergeometric distributions to assess the alignment of current inspection procedures with the company's Acceptable Quality Level (AQL = 10%) and Lot Tolerance Percent Defective (LTPD = 13.5%). The analysis revealed that the Probability of Acceptance (Pa) at LTPD exceeded the desired consumer risk (β), indicating misalignment between the supplier’s and MOP Beauty’s quality expectations. Recommendations include tightening the sampling acceptance number to c = 10 to reduce β risk, revising the defect classification standards, and strengthening the incoming inspection procedure. These improvements are expected to enhance defect detection, ensure consistency with quality standards, and reinforce brand credibility in the competitive cosmetics market.
