Abstract

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh rendahnya perhatian masyarakat terhadap museum sebagai sarana wisata edukatif serta keterbatasan sumber daya manusia dan inovasi dalam pengelolaannya. Museum Mpu Tantular Sidoarjo dipilih sebagai objek penelitian karena memiliki potensi besar sebagai pusat edukasi sejarah dan pariwisata berkelanjutan. Berdasarkan latar belakang tersebut, rumusan masalah dalam penelitian ini adalah: (1) bagaimana peran dan kendala Museum Mpu Tantular dalam mendukung pendidikan berkelanjutan melalui pariwisata dan edukasi sejarah, dan (2) bagaimana pendekatan inovatif yang diterapkan untuk menarik minat pengunjung dan meningkatkan nilai edukatif museum. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi kendala serta menggambarkan pendekatan inovatif yang dapat mendukung pengembangan museum sebagai destinasi wisata edukasi yang berkelanjutan. Metode yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif dengan teknik pengumpulan data berupa observasi non partisipan, wawancara mendalam kepada pengelola museum, dinas terkait, dan pengunjung, serta studi literatur. Analisis data dilakukan dengan reduksi data, penyajian data, dan penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kendala utama yang dihadapi museum meliputi keterbatasan SDM yang profesional, kurangnya pemanfaatan teknologi digital, dan lemahnya sinergi antar-lembaga. Sementara itu, strategi yang dapat mendukung pengembangan museum antara lain integrasi program edukasi berbasis kurikulum, promosi sejarah sebagai daya tarik wisata, serta penyelenggaraan program kreatif yang partisipatif. Penelitian ini menyarankan agar pengelola museum dan pihak terkait memperkuat kolaborasi lintas sektor, mengembangkan inovasi digital seperti aplikasi museum interaktif, serta menyusun program edukasi adaptif berbasis kebutuhan pengunjung. Untuk penelitian selanjutnya, disarankan dilakukan pendalaman studi efektivitas program edukasi untuk mengkaji dampak langsung strategi program edukasi museum terhadap peningkatan literasi sejarah dan kesadaran budaya di masyarakat.

This research is motivated by the low public attention to the museum as a means of educational tourism as well as limited human resources and innovation in its management. Mpu Tantular Museum Sidoarjo was chosen as the object of research because it has great potential as a center for historical education and sustainable tourism. Based on this background, the problem formulations in this study are: (1) what are the roles and constraints of Mpu Tantular Museum in supporting sustainable education through tourism and historical education, and (2) how innovative approaches are applied to attract visitors and increase the educational value of the museum. This research aims to identify constraints and describe innovative approaches that can support the development of the museum as a sustainable educational tourism destination. The method used is a qualitative method with data collection techniques in the form of non-participant observation, in-depth interviews with museum managers, related agencies, and visitors, as well as literature studies. Data analysis was carried out by data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results showed that the main obstacles faced by the museum include limited professional human resources, lack of utilization of digital technology, and weak synergy between institutions. Meanwhile, strategies that can support museum development include the integration of curriculum-based educational programs, the promotion of history as a tourist attraction, and the implementation of participatory creative programs. This study suggests that museum managers and related parties strengthen cross-sector collaboration, develop digital innovations such as interactive museum applications, and develop adaptive educational programs based on visitor needs. For future research, it is recommended to deepen the study of the effectiveness of educational programs to examine the direct impact of museum education program strategies on increasing historical literacy and cultural awareness in the community.
