Abstract

Permintaan Polimetil Metakrilat (PMMA) di Indonesia terus meningkat, terutama di sektor otomotif, konstruksi, dan medis. Pada tahun 2023, Indonesia mengimpor sebanyak 12.602,76 ton PMMA untuk memenuhi kebutuhan domestik. Kondisi ini menciptakan peluang untuk mendirikan pabrik PMMA lokal guna mengurangi ketergantungan pada impor dan mendukung pertumbuhan industri dalam negeri. Penentuan lokasi pabrik dilakukan melalui analisis berbagai faktor, dengan Kota Tangerang dipilih sebagai lokasi yang paling strategis. Batam memiliki akses langsung ke pasar internasional melalui pelabuhan dan bandara, infrastruktur transportasi yang memadai, serta ketersediaan tenaga kerja yang mencukupi, sehingga mendukung operasional pabrik secara efisien. Pabrik ini akan menggunakan metode polimerisasi suspensi, di mana monomer Methyl Methacrylate (MMA) dicampur dengan inisiator Benzoyl Peroxide (BPO) dalam media air dengan stabilizer Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA). Proses polimerisasi akan berlangsung dalam Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR) pada suhu 86°C. Metode ini dipilih karena memungkinkan kontrol yang baik terhadap suhu dan viskositas, serta mampu menghasilkan PMMA dengan berat molekul tinggi dan tingkat konversi monomer yang optimal. Tujuan dari pabrik ini adalah menghasilkan PMMA berkualitas tinggi yang memiliki distribusi ukuran partikel yang seragam dan bebas dari kontaminan. Untuk mencapai hal ini, serangkaian proses pencucian, pengeringan, dan klasifikasi partikel dilakukan guna memastikan bahwa produk akhir memenuhi standar industri yang ketat. Dengan desain proses yang efisien, diharapkan pabrik ini mampu bersaing di pasar domestik dan internasional, serta memenuhi kebutuhan industri yang terus berkembang

The demand for Polymethyl Methacrylate (PMMA) in Indonesia has been steadily increasing, particularly in the automotive, construction, and medical sectors. In 2023, Indonesia imported 12,602.76 tons of PMMA to meet domestic demand. This presents a significant opportunity for the establishment of a local PMMA plant to reduce dependency on imports and support the growth of the domestic industry. After considering various factors, Tangerang City was selected as the most strategic location. Batam offers direct access to international markets through its ports and airports, in addition to having well-developed transportation infrastructure and an adequate labor force, which ensures efficient plant operations. The plant will employ the suspension polymerization method, where Methyl Methacrylate (MMA) monomers are mixed with the initiator Benzoyl Peroxide (BPO) in an aqueous medium using Polyvinyl Alcohol (PVA) as a stabilizer. The polymerization process will take place in a Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR) at a controlled temperature of 86°C. This method was selected for its ability to effectively control temperature and viscosity, enabling the production of high-molecular-weight PMMA with optimal monomer conversion rates. The primary objective of this plant is to produce high-quality PMMA with uniform particle size distribution and free of contaminants. To achieve this, the plant will implement a series of washing, drying, and particle classification processes to ensure that the final product meets stringent industrial standards. With its efficient process design, this PMMA plant is expected to be competitive in both domestic and international markets, while fulfilling the growing needs of the industry.
