Abstract

Pipeline is one of several ways of transporting oil and gas from offshore to onshore. Installation of the pipeline is required before the transporting could be done. The commonly
used method in pipeline installation is called the s-lay method where the pipe is lowered to the seadbed in a letter “S’ shape using a stinger that is attached to a barge. This research examines the roller support reaction and the pipeline buckling to ensure that the pipeline is safe during installation. In addition, the optimum stinger configuration is analyze. The study is conducted with 12 m and 35 m water depth variation. A 52 inch pipe of API 5L Grade X65 PSL2 with a 6 inch piggyback of API 5L Grade X42 PSL2 is analyze using a finite element software. The results shows that the maximum support reaction happened in barge roller 9 on
case 14. Local buckling occurred during 35 m depth installation, namely when the stinger angle was 4 deg, 6 deg, and 10 deg. It is recommended to use 4 deg, 6 deg, and 8 deg stinger angle for 12 m depth installation and 8 deg stinger angle for 35 m depth installation.
