Abstract

Picking batas lapisan laterit dilakukan guna mendapatkan persebaran ketebalan.

Nickel ore is a vital element for various industrial sectors that can come from two main types, namely laterite and sulfide. In Indonesia, nickel is found in lateritic form formed through the weathering process of ultramafic rocks. The method often used in lateritic nickel exploration is drilling because it has a relatively high level of accuracy in determining the distribution of layers. However, this method has limitations in that it requires more than 1 drill hole to determine the distribution of nickel laterite, so this method requires a lot of time and money. In this research, one of the active geophysical methods is Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), with the aim of identifying the presence of nickel laterite deposits by utilizing electromagnetic waves. GPR is non-destructive, practical, and does not require expensive costs. GPR measurements were carried out on 9 tracks in Block XXX, Kolaka Regency, Southeast Sulawesi. Field measurement data were processed using several filters and topographic corrections. 3D processing was also carried out to obtain volume and tonnage in the research area. Based on the results of GPR processing that has been validated with databases, the limonite and saprolite layers have hummocky reflection patterns but have different amplitude contrasts. Picking the boundaries of the laterite layer is done to get the thickness distribution. Based on the interpolation results, the limonite layer has a thickness of 3.3 to 12.3 meters while the saprolite layer thickness is 3.1 to 20 meters. The results of the 3D model obtained the estimated volume value of laterite nickel resources in limonite of 25,846,256 m^3 with a tonnage of 334,967 tons and in saprolite has a volume of 40,313,875 m^3 with a tonnage of 901,418 tons.
