Abstract

Operational effectiveness is a critical factor in ensuring a company’s success within a competitive market. However, various challenges may hinder organizations from achieving the expected level of performance, as exemplified by a food
manufacturing company located in West Java, Indonesia. The key issue faced by this company is a high rate of unplanned downtime due to equipment failures. To address this problem, Autonomous Maintenance (AM) was implemented as a strategic solution to improve production equipment performance by involving operators in routine maintenance activities. A combined analytical approach using Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and the Delphi method was applied to
identify the root causes of failures based on three key criteria: occurrence, severity, and detection capability. Corrective actions were prioritized by focusing on highrisk elements related to machinery, personnel, and operational methods. Following the implementation of these improvements, operational effectiveness was assessed using Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) as a performance metric. The OEE increased from 73.98% in January 2025 to 82.44% in March 2025 and stabilized at 83.29% in the subsequent month. These findings demonstrate that the adoption of AM not only enhanced operational effectiveness but also supported sustained productivity over time.
