Abstract

In industrial operations, the continuity of power supply is a crucial factor in maintaining the efficiency and reliability of production processes. A reliable electrical system is one that ensures continuous and dependable power delivery. To guarantee this continuity, the electrical system must have a well-designed protection coordination scheme. One commonly used protection device is the Inverse Time Overcurrent Relay (OCR), which functions to disconnect the circuit when an overcurrent fault occurs. However, manually setting the Time Dial Setting (TDS) of OCRs is often inefficient and time-consuming. This study aims to calculate the optimal TDS values using the Adaptive Modified Firefly Algorithm (AMFA) method. From the research conducted, it was concluded that the TDS values generated by the AMFA method correspond to the minimum TDS values obtained through manual calculations. These AMFA-generated TDS values were then simulated using ETAP software, and the results complied with the safety limits set by AMFA, namely that the relays operate with a minimum time of 0.1 seconds and a coordination time interval (CTI) of 0.2 seconds between relays. The results of the study shows that the AMFA method successfully calculates optimal TDS values.
