Abstract

The water crisis, driven by climate change and excessive groundwater exploitation, necessitates efficient groundwater resource exploration strategies. This study aims to map the distribution of aquifer potential and evaluate the accuracy of the GODT model in Ternate Island, developed from the GOD model (Groundwater confinement, Overlying lithology resistivity, Depth to aquifer) by incorporating the aquifer thickness (T) parameter. The methodology integrates 1-D geoelectric inversion data with Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis (MCDA) using two weighting techniques: conventional literature-based weighting and the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP). The dataset consists of 37 1-D geoelectric measurement points and 58 well data points for groundwater level validation. The modeling results reveal the dominance of a confined aquifer system in the northern region of Ternate Island. The groundwater potential indices derived from the GODT-MCDA and GODT-AHP approaches were classified into four categories, exhibiting varied distribution patterns while demonstrating consistency in certain zones. Areas with high groundwater potential are predominantly distributed in the southern, southwestern, and northeastern coastal regions, whereas low potential dominates the northern to northeastern parts of the island. Accuracy evaluation using simple linear regression indicates a significant correlation between the GODT index and well water column thickness data, confirming the high effectiveness of the GODT model approach in predicting aquifer productivity in volcanic regions.
