Abstract
=======================================================================================================================================
Buntung River is one of the tributaries of the Brantas River located in Waru District, Sidoarjo Regency, East Java Province. Waru District is considered a flood-prone area. In addition to geographical factors, community behavior also significantly influences the smooth flow of the river. The obstruction of river flow is largely caused by the accumulation of household waste around the Buntung River area. Besides waste disposal, the use of riverbanks for residential areas by the local community further hinders the river flow. Therefore, efforts are needed to address the flood problem and restore the flow capacity of Buntung River. The objective of this study is to develop a cross-sectional model of the Buntung River as part of normalization efforts. Hydrological analysis was carried out using the Polygon Thiessen method to determine the regional rainfall, followed by frequency analysis. The results showed that the design rainfall for return periods of 2, 5, 10, 25, 50, and 100 years are 85.04 mm, 112.27 mm, 126.59 mm, 140.88 mm, 149.60 mm, and 156.74 mm, respectively. The existing river condition was modeled using HEC-RAS software. The analysis revealed that most of the existing cross-sections are unable to accommodate the design flood discharge of 296.285 m³/s. Therefore, a normalization plan was designed using two types of new cross-sections: rectangular sections with sheet piles and trapezoidal sections with embankments. The new designs were proven to effectively accommodate the design flood discharge.
