Abstract

Asam levulinat tergolong ke dalam asam lemak rantai pendek dengan gugus karbonil keton dan asam. Senyawa ini memiliki potensi besar sebagai platform bahan kimia untuk menyintesis bahan kimia berharga lainnya, seperti gamma-valerolactone (GVL) dan etil levulinat yang secara berturut-turut dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai bahan sintesis polimer serta bahan aditif biodiesel. Meskipun data mengenai kebutuhan asam levulinat di Indonesia masih belum tersedia, tingginya permintaan terhadap biodiesel dan polimer menunjukkan bahwa asam levulinat mempunyai prospek yang menjanjikan di industri kimia. Sebagai turunan gula utama, asam levulinat dapat diproduksi dari biomassa. Pabrik ini menggunakan biomassa tandan kosong kelapa sawit sebagai bahan baku untuk menyediakan sumber lignoselulosa karena ketersediaannya yang melimpah di Indonesia dan ramah lingkungan. Dengan memperhitungkan potensi kebutuhan biodiesel dan poliuretan pada tahun 2030, pabrik asam levulinat direncanakan akan memproduksi sebesar 8.000 ton/tahun dengan melalui dua proses utama, yaitu pre-treatment menggunakan steam explosion dan hidrolisis asam levulinat menggunakan katalis homogen berupa asam sulfat. Pabrik akan didirikan di Dumai, Riau, dengan mempertimbangkan beberapa aspek. Berdasarkan studi teknis dan ekonomis, maka didapatkan penaksiran modal CAPEX sebesar Rp3.412.489.000.344 dengan biaya OPEX sebesar Rp2.820.403.534.925. Pabrik Diestimasikan berumur 20 tahun dengan waktu pengembalian pinjaman selama 10 tahun. Dari hasil perhitungan ekonomi, didapatkan nilai IRR yang diperoleh sebesar 15,80% dan BEP senilai 25%. Diperoleh juga NPV positif sebesar Rp1.652.578.581.904 yang bernilai positif. Dengan demikian, pabrik asam levulinat berbasis lignoselulosa dari TKKS layak didirikan.

Levulinic acid belongs to the group of short-chain fatty acids, characterized by ketone and acidic carbonyl groups. This compound has great potential as a platform chemical to synthesize other valuable chemicals, such as gamma-valerolactone (GVL) and ethyl levulinate, which can be utilized as polymer synthesis materials and biodiesel additives, respectively. Although data on the demand for levulinic acid in Indonesia is not yet available, the high demand for biodiesel and polymers suggests that levulinic acid has promising prospects in the chemical industry. As a major sugar derivative, levulinic acid can be produced from biomass. This plant uses palm oil empty fruit bunches biomass as feedstock to provide a source of lignocellulose due to its abundant availability in Indonesia and environmental friendliness. Considering the potential demand for biodiesel and polyurethane in 2030, the levulinic acid plant is planned to produce 8.000 tons/year through two main processes, namely pre-treatment using steam explosion and hydrolysis of levulinic acid using a homogeneous catalyst in the form of sulfuric acid. The plant will be established in Dumai, Riau, after several considerations. Based on technical and economic studies, the CAPEX capital estimate is Rp3.412.489.000.344 with OPEX cost of Rp2.820.403.534.925. The plant is estimated to have a life of 20 years with a loan repayment period of 10 years. From the economic calculation results, the IRR value obtained is 15,80% and the BEP is 25%. A positive NPV of Rp1.652.578.581.904 was also obtained. Thus, the lignocellulosebased levulinic acid plant from EFB is feasible.
