Abstract

PT Adaro Logistics plans to construct two new fuel storage tanks at Port Kelanis, each with a capacity of 2,500 kL, a diameter of 10 meters, and a height of 12 meters. To mitigate the risk of fuel leakage, a bund wall embankment is planned with a height of 1.7 meters, a side slope of 1:1, and a distance of 9 meters from the outer edge of the tanks. Based on soil investigations using the CPT (sondir) and SPT methods, a soft soil layer was found at depths of 3–12 meters, and a hard soil layer was encountered at depths greater than 40 meters. The surface layer consists of silty sand at depths of 0–3 meters with medium average density. This final project discusses the foundation design for the fuel storage tanks at Port Kelanis using square pile foundations with two dimensional alternatives: 250 mm and 500 mm. Bearing capacity calculations were carried out using the Luciano Decourt and Mayerhof methods. Additionally, an alternative design of a vertical bund wall embankment was proposed, aimed at achieving stability and minimizing settlement. The evaluation results indicate that the 250 mm square pile is the most cost-efficient option, with a material cost difference of approximately 29% compared to the 500 mm alternative. Meanwhile, the vertical bund wall embankment is more economical than the sloped alternative, with a material cost savings of up to 43%.
