Abstract

One of the main challenges in oil and gas exploration and development today is dealing with reservoirs with the presence of Low Quality Reservoir (LQR) Zones. Low Quality Reservoir (LQR) zones, which are altered by low porosity and permeability and high shale or clay content, are often overlooked in the early stages of development. The AGN Field, which experienced a significant decline in production rates due to depletion of the main productive zone, is the research location in this study. This study aims to identify LQR zones through petrophysical analysis and reservoir characterization using the Hydraulic Flow Unit (HFU) method. This approach is carried out to predict permeability more accurately by utilizing the correlation between Flow Zone Indicator (FZI) and well log data. This analysis allows for detailed rock type classification and more precise determination of reservoir quality. The results obtained indicate that the LQR zone still has hidden hydrocarbon potential with porosity values below 10% and permeability below 19.8 mD which are feasible to be developed with the right strategy. By integrating geological, petrophysical, and reservoir engineering data, this research contributes to improving the accuracy of productive identification intervals and supports further development efforts of the AGN Field more effectively and economically.
