Abstract

The construction of the Crude Oil Storage Tank facility at PT Kilang Pertamina Internasional (PT KPI) RU-VII Kasim is a strategic project aimed at maintaining energy supply stability in the Papua region. During field implementation, the foundation construction for Tank 5-T-43 encountered two major issues. First, there was a horizontal deviation of the piles from their design coordinates. Second, the majority of the piles (94.86%) were driven to a shallower depth
than the original planned depth of 18 meters. The lateral capacity of the piles was analyzed using the Lpile2022 software to assess the impact of the deviation, while the justification for the shallower pile depth was validated by comparing the results of the Static Loading Test (SLT)
with theoretical bearing capacity calculations. The stability of the pile group was then numerically modeled under load combinations, including seismic effects based on SNI 1726- 2019.Based on the conducted analysis, using the pile–soil interaction method with p–y curves, the foundation piles were found to be safe from failure due to deviation, as assessed through deflection control, bending moment, and shear force. The shallower pile driving was also justified, as the actual bearing capacity from the SLT results, which reached 310 tons (using the Davisson Method), exceeded the theoretical calculations. The evaluation of the group pile
bearing capacity, both with and without seismic effects, indicated that the existing foundation remains safe under service loads. In Scenario 1, where the existing pile length matches the original depth of 18 meters, the most cost-efficient foundation in terms of material cost is a D800 foundation with a depth of 14 meters and a configuration of 294 piles, with a total cost of IDR 9,176,000,000.00. In Scenario 2, where the existing pile length is adjusted to 14 meters, the most cost-efficient option is a D600 foundation with a depth of 14 meters and a configuration of 350 piles, with a total cost of IDR 7,840,000,000.00
