Abstract

The Kujung Formation in Field KOH is one of the carbonate reservoir systems located in the North East Java Basin. Carbonate reservoirs are known for their high heterogeneity due to variations in lithology, porosity, and the effects of diagenetic processes, making characterization using conventional methods challenging. This study aims to analyze the relationship between seismic facies, interpreted from internal configuration and reflection amplitude, and the distribution of acoustic impedance derived from model-based seismic inversion in the Kujung Formation, Field KOH, within the North East Java Basin. The data utilized include 3D post-stack depth migration (PSDM) seismic data, four wells (KOH1, KOH2, KOH4, and KOH5), and well logs such as gamma ray, sonic, resistivity, density, and neutron. Acoustic impedance inversion was conducted using the model-based method to generate an acoustic impedance distribution map, while seismic facies were interpreted based on reflection patterns such as parallel (platform), mounded, chaotic, inclined, and parallel (basinal). The results show that mounded and chaotic facies are associated with relatively low acoustic impedance values, parallel (platform) facies exhibit intermediate impedance values, inclined facies show a gradation from low to high impedance, and parallel (basinal) display the highest acoustic impedance values.
