Abstract

The Offshore North-West Java Basin constitutes one of Indonesia’s primary hydrocarbon-producing regions, hosting numerous active production fields managed by PTmPertamina EP Regional 2 and PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Offshore North-West Java (PHEmONWJ). This study aims to estimate the hydrocarbon resource potential of an undeveloped structure within the “Brekele” Field, focusing on the Talang Akar Formation, a major siliciclastic reservoir interval in the basin. The methodology involves deterministic petrophysical analysis on five wells to assess petrophysical parameters, calculate net-pay thickness, and estimate hydrocarbon resources using Monte Carlo probabilistic simulation. The
results indicate effective porosity values ranging from 19.8% to 29.6%, shale volume from 2%
to 32.2%, water saturation between 25.9% and 64%, and permeability classified as excellent according to Koesoemadinata (1980), all of which reflect favorable reservoir quality. Net-pay thickness varies from 6.5 to 37 ft, indicating heterogeneous reservoir distribution associated with transgressive sedimentation patterns progressing from the northern depocenter toward the
southern structural high. The AS structure is predominantly oil-bearing, with estimated oil inplace of 27.6 million barrels (MMBO) and recoverable resources of 3.6 MMBO. In contrast, the CS structure is gas-dominated, containing 1.5 billion cubic feet (BCF) of gas in-place and 1.1 BCF of recoverable gas resources.
