Abstract

The development of an inclusive and sustainable economy heavily depends on the participation of all layers of society, including the role of women in the labor force. Women's participation in the labor market not only reflects gender equality but also plays a crucial role in accelerating economic growth and reducing social inequality. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing the Female Labor Force Participation Rate (FLFPR) in West Java Province during the period of 2010-2019. Using panel data probit regression with a random effect approach, the study analyzes variables such as the average years of schooling for women (RLS), the minimum wage by district/city (UMK), the percentage of married women, the life expectancy for women, and the gender development index (GDI). The data used in this study is secondary data obtained from publications by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) and the Governor's Decree of West Java. This study utilizes balanced panel data that includes a time-series data over 10 years (2010-2019) and cross-sectional data covering 26 districts/cities in West Java Province. The results of the study indicate that all predictor variables, namely the average years of schooling for women (RLS), minimum wage by district/city (UMK), the percentage of married women, life expectancy for women (AHH), and the gender development index (GDI), significantly affect the female labor force participation rate (FLFPR). The estimation results show that an increase in the average years of schooling for women (RLS), the percentage of married women, and the gender development index (GDI) tends to increase the likelihood of achieving the FLFPR performance target set in the RPJMD of West Java Province. On the other hand, an increase in the minimum wage by district/city (UMK) and life expectancy for women (AHH) potentially decreases the likelihood of achieving that target. The model obtained shows a classification accuracy of 75.77 percent.
