Abstract

Tuna is the second largest export commodity from capture fisheries in Indonesia after shrimp, and is also one of the contributors to the country's foreign exchange. Globally, Indonesia contributes around 19.1% to the world's total tuna supply. Despite its important role in contributing to the country's foreign exchange, the value of Indonesia's fresh tuna exports has fluctuated between destination countries in recent years. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the factors that influence the value of Indonesia's fresh tuna exports. The method used is a quantitative approach with descriptive statistical analysis techniques and panel data regression. This study uses data from eight main destination countries for Indonesia's fresh tuna exports during the 2015–2023 period, namely Japan, the United States, Singapore, Thailand, Australia, the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, and Hong Kong. The results of the analysis show that logistics variables, proxied by the Logistics Performance Index (LPI), market size proxied by population, and exchange rates have a positive and significant effect on the value of Indonesia's fresh tuna exports. Conversely, the transportation cost variables proxied by economic distance have a negative and significant effect. In addition, the infrastructure variable proxied by the port quality index and economic growth proxied by real GDP did not show a significant effect on fresh tuna exports. This study is expected to provide empirical contributions for formulating export policies that are more responsive to challenges in logistics, market access, and supply chain efficiency, in order to enhance the competitiveness of Indonesia’s fresh tuna in the global market.
