Abstract

Following the COVID-19 pandemic, public awareness of physical health has increased significantly, driving a growing trend toward active lifestyles, including a renewed interest in exercising at fitness centers. This phenomenon has impacted not only stand-alone gyms but also sports facilities within clubhouses, which now serve a dual role as spaces for both exercise and social interaction. However, the increasing diversity of users has brought about new challenges related to spatial inclusivity. Many new users often feel hesitant or lack confidence to engage in physical activity in public spaces due to an unsupportive social or spatial atmosphere. Meanwhile, experienced users may experience reduced comfort when facilities and spatial arrangements are not continuously adapted and improved. These differing needs can be addressed through appropriate interior design solutions. This project responds to these issues by proposing a wellness-centered and inclusive redesign approach for a clubhouse, emphasizing spatial experiences that support both physical and emotional comfort. The design focuses on circulation and zoning strategies, the selection of interior elements that foster motivation to exercise, and the creation of a non-intimidating atmosphere. In doing so, the clubhouse is envisioned not only as a functional fitness facility but also as a space that can engage and support a broader range of individuals in sustaining a healthy lifestyle.
