Abstract
Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk merancang media pembelajaran waktu berbasis prinsip Montessori bagi anak usia dini. Konsep waktu kerap dianggap abstrak dan sulit dipahami oleh anak, sehingga dibutuhkan pendekatan konkret, sensorial, dan manipulatif yang sesuai dengan tahap perkembangan mereka. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode Double Diamond Design Thinking yang terdiri dari empat tahap: discover, define, develop, dan deliver. Proses dimulai dengan studi literatur dan observasi, dilanjutkan dengan wawancara mendalam bersama guru Montessori dan orang tua, untuk mengidentifikasi kebutuhan serta tantangan anak dalam memahami waktu. Hasil temuan dianalisis dan dikembangkan menjadi solusi desain, kemudian dilakukan uji coba usability pada anak usia 3-7 tahun. Output dari penelitian ini berupa dua produk utama, yaitu Montessori Clock dan jam tangan anak yang terintegrasi. Montessori Clock memiliki fitur angka lepas-pasang dan jarum jam putar, yang membantu anak belajar konsep waktu secara visual dan motorik melalui pembagian 15 menit. Jam tangan anak didesain sesuai ukuran anak usia dini, dengan sistem buckle untuk latihan kemandirian serta tampilan angka yang jelas untuk mempermudah pemahaman waktu sehari-hari. Hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa pendekatan pembelajaran berbasis eksplorasi langsung dan manipulatif lebih efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman waktu. Produk ini diharapkan menjadi solusi edukatif dan interaktif dalam mendukung perkembangan kognitif dan kemandirian anak, sesuai dengan prinsip Montessori.

This study aims to design a time-learning media based on Montessori principles for early childhood. The concept of time is often perceived as abstract and difficult for children to understand; therefore, a concrete, sensorial, and manipulative approach is needed to match their developmental stage. This research adopts the Double Diamond Design Thinking method, which consists of four stages: discover, define, develop, and deliver. The process begins with literature studies and observation, followed by in-depth interviews with Montessori teachers and parents to identify the needs and challenges children face in understanding time. The findings were analyzed and translated into a design solution, then tested through usability trials with children aged 3 to 7 years. The main outputs of this study are two integrated products : the Montessori Clock and a children’s wristwatch. The Montessori Clock features detachable numbers and a rotatable hand that support visual and motor-based learning through 15-minute interval segments. The children’s watch is designed to fit the size of early learners, equipped with a buckle system to encourage independence and clear numeric visuals to support daily time comprehension. The usability test results show that a hands-on, exploratory approach is more effective in improving children’s understanding of time. This product is expected to serve as an educational and interactive solution that fosters cognitive development and independence in children, aligned with Montessori principles.
