Abstract

The trend of using tiles in interior design has evolved from a function of flooring and wall covering to a decorative element on furniture, especially restaurant tabletops. Tiles on tabletops not only serve as a decorative element but also support the trend of food photography, which is becoming increasingly popular due to the influence of social media. However, the application of tiles on tabletops often faces technical challenges, such as the heavy weight of the material, which makes it difficult to move, and the problem of dimensional incompatibility that causes damage to the wooden frame joints. This research aims to develop an alternative decorative element for tabletops using computer numerical control (CNC) for precise and repeatable manufacturing processes to create wooden patterns. This technique utilizes wood offcuts as the prime material, which are lighter and more flexible than cement or ceramic tiles. The design results are expected to produce decorative elements that are not only aesthetically pleasing and unique but also functional, lightweight, and environmentally friendly.
