Abstract
Data visualization is a powerful method of presenting data using graphics to enhance understanding and summarize information effectively. Despite the availability of various types of graphs for data presentation, many people struggle to interpret data accurately, which can lead to misunderstandings and poor design decisions. This study compares 2D and 3D scatter plots to explore any challenges or difficulties users may encounter when viewing 3D data visualizations using Virtual Reality (VR). The research will use the System Usability Scale (SUS), Simulator Sickness Questionnaire (SSQ), and Retrospective Think Aloud to gain insights into user understanding of 3D data visualization. The sample involved 15 respondents from industrial and systems engineering students. The study examined one independent variable (type of graphics: 2D, 3D flat screen, and 3D VR) and four dependent variables (completion time, error rates, score, and SUS score). The results showed no significant differences in completion time, error rates, and scores across the three types of graphics. However, there was a substantial difference in the SUS score, with a p-value of 0.001 at a significance level of 0.05.
